Getting started with yoga can feel daunting to the novice. An experienced yoga teacher shares her insights into where to begin and how to succeed.
One of my favorite parts of teaching yoga is introducing people to something that I love so much. I know that taking a new class and putting yourself out there in a different way is scary and often uncomfortable, so I’m pleased when people new to yoga come to my class.
I always remind them that it’s “just yoga,” meaning it’s not a race or competition, and you can measure your own progress and success on your own terms. Yoga poses are meant to relax, stretch and release tension, and maybe even let go of some of the constant thoughts in your head. That last one definitely takes practice!
